Frequently asked questions
Our first session is an opportunity for us to meet and for you to get a sense of whether counselling with me feels right for you. You can tell me a little about what has brought you to counselling, ask any questions you may have, and we can talk about what you might hope for from our work together. There is no pressure to share more than feels comfortable, and no obligation to continue afterwards.
Counselling sessions are 60 minutes. Sessions are available in person in Totnes or online via Google Meet.
60-minute counselling sessions are £55. I also offer a limited number of reduced-fee places at £40–£45 per session. I offer a free 15-minute introductory call or meeting, with no obligation to continue.
Yes. I offer counselling online via Google Meet, as well as in-person sessions in Totnes. Online counselling can be a convenient option if travelling to Totnes is difficult or if you simply prefer to meet from your own space.
Yes. What we discuss in counselling is treated confidentially. There are some limits to confidentiality, which I will explain clearly before we begin working together.
Counselling sessions are usually weekly, as meeting regularly can help provide continuity and support our work together. We can discuss what feels manageable and appropriate for you when we first meet.
There is no fixed length of time for counselling. Some people come for support with a particular difficulty or period in their life, while others find longer-term work helpful. We can talk together about what feels right for you and review how the counselling is going as our work develops.
You don’t need to have a particular diagnosis or even be completely sure what is troubling you. People come to counselling for many different reasons, including anxiety, low mood, loss, relationship difficulties, life changes, caring for others, self-esteem, identity and difficult past experiences.Sometimes you may simply have a sense that something isn’t right or that life has become harder to manage alone.
It’s completely understandable to feel unsure about starting counselling. I offer a free initial 15-minute session so that we can meet, you can ask any questions you may have, and you can get a sense of whether working together feels right for you. There is no obligation to continue afterwards.
